Parker calls on Elrod to explain missed votes

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker today called on Republican State Rep. and Seventh District Congressional candidate to explain why he missed a vote this morning addressing Indiana's teacher shortage.

In a Feb. 14 interview with WTHR-TV, Elrod pledged that he would not miss any votes at the Statehouse in order to campaign for Congress: "I will make sure that I am there for all the votes in the Indiana General Assembly."

Parker said Hoosiers deserve better.

"It's outrageous that Jon Elrod is out campaigning instead of voting on critical issues that affect Hoosier children," Parker said. "Then again, that's what we've come to expect from someone who's clearly more interested in campaigning than working on behalf of those who elected him to serve at the Statehouse.

Earlier this month, Elrod was criticized by GOP leadership for performing campaign activities on the floor of the Indiana House during session.
