INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Tallian released the following statement today after Governor Mike Braun’s announcement on the state gas tax.
“Gas prices are up over a dollar per gallon and Braun’s solution is to give us back 17 cents? This is yet another 17 cent idea from a 17 percent approval rating governor,” said Tallian.
“After spending nearly $200,000 of taxpayer money on a private helipad and helicopter rides, Mike Braun is suddenly concerned about the cost of living crisis his Republican party caused. Gas prices are rapidly approaching five dollars a gallon and Hoosiers are struggling to keep up with rising costs. Republicans are letting oil companies use this crisis to jack up prices at the same time they screw over BP refinery workers in Northwest Indiana.
“It took over 20 years of Republican rule to drive Indiana’s economy this far into the ditch. A 30 day pause isn’t going to reverse an affordability crisis this long in the making.”
