Indiana GOP Members of Congress Back Extreme Speaker of the House
All seven Indiana Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives voted earlier this week to elect Mike Johnson Speaker of the House. Johnson has a dangerous record of extremism and divisive politics. He has called for restrictive bans on abortion care and voted against marriage equality among other rights for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Johnson helped lead the unsuccessful effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election by objecting to legitimate election results and pandering to MAGA Republicans.
The decision by GOP members of Indiana’s congressional delegation to back Johnson shows their loyalty lies with divisive politics and extremism, not Indiana values. Democrats in Congress will continue to model sound, responsible leadership and put the future of our nation first.
Each week, the State Party will highlight key policy from Democrats at the Statehouse or across the state. Democrats deliver a better future for Hoosier families, and we urge you to share this information with your networks.
Democratic Congressman Frank Mrvan recently announced a federal grant awarding the Hobart Police Department funding to improve mental health and wellness services for law enforcement agents. The Hobart Police Department will receive $200,000 to improve support resources for members of the department. Indiana Democrats support law enforcement and know that communities are at their best when everyone has access to mental and emotional health resources.
