Two Weeks In: An Update From The New Tallian Administration
Karen Tallian has hit the ground running less than two weeks into her term as Chair of the Indiana Democratic Party. In just the last fortnight, our Party has begun to plan out a series of People’s Town Hall events across the state, with the first events scheduled for Saturday, April 12 in Bloomington and New Albany. You can RSVP and learn more at the links attached.
Karen has also set up an open application process for Democrats around our state to apply to be Deputy Chairs for our Party. Karen is determined to make sure our party welcomes all voices and that new people are given the opportunity to succeed. Apply here to be a Deputy Chair.
She also called most of our County Chairs this week. She had a goal to call every one of the County Chairs, and while she fell a bit short this week of reaching them all, she will be reaching out to even more of them next week. Karen has also spent the last two weeks building relationships with elected officials and other leaders across the state, including attending fundraisers and building a stronger network for our Party.
Where in the World is Diego Morales? This Time He’s in India, Not Indiana
After going missing from the public for 10 days, Diego Morales publicly posted that he is India. This is after Morales missed the budget hearing for his own office in the Senate last week. During that hearing, he made his staff defend the fact he was absent. His staff refused to state where Morales was and only said he was on an “economic development trip”.
Hoosiers want to know: was this really a taxpayer-funded vacation for the Secretary of State? Democrats are the only ones who have stood up for taxpayers against Morales’s antics. Earlier this session, State Rep. Ed DeLaney grilled Morales and proposed an amendment to cut any budget increases for his office, which was voted down by Statehouse Republicans.
Republicans seem content to fund Morales’s grift but Democrats are pushing back.
Each week, the State Party will highlight key policy from Democrats at the Statehouse or across the state. Democrats deliver a better future for Hoosier families, and we urge you to share this information with your networks.
This week, we are highlighting the work of State Rep. Victoria Garcia Wilburn and Statehouse Democrats to legalize lifesaving fentanyl test strips. It’s an effort that Rep. Garcia Wilburn and Statehouse Democrats have led on for years. We’re happy to see the effort receive bipartisan support this session and make it to the Governor’s desk.
