U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan Grows Victory Margin in Closely Watched Swing District
U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan (D-1) more than doubled his victory margin in 2024 compared with his 2022 win. This year, he won by over 27,000 votes when he only won by 12,000 votes in 2022.
Following his reelection, Mrvan continued to proudly serve the American people and introduced H.R.10105 – Veterans’ Security and Pay Transparency Act. The bill is designed to help the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs improve its retention and recruitment of VA personnel.
“I look forward to continuing to work with all of my Congressional colleagues to hold the VA accountable and ensure that the VA police force has the resources it needs to keep our selfless veterans and VA facilities secure,” Mrvan said in a press release.
LG-elect Micah Beckwith Threatens IU Student Newspaper
On Tuesday, November 12, Lieutenant Governor-elect Republican Micah Beckwith took to Facebook and X to attack the Indiana Daily Student (IDS), a student-led publication from Indiana University (IU), and threaten its existence for using an illustration of Trump on its cover featuring quotes from former supporters and peers.
Beckwith slammed the illustration, saying, “This is WOKE propaganda at its finest and why most of America looks at higher education indoctrination centers like IU as a complete joke and waste of money.” Contrary to Beckwith’s negative review, U.S. News and World Report ranks IU as #34 in top public schools in the nation and #73 in national universities. As a longtime, respected institution, the school has graduated over 790,000 individuals.
Beckwith also falsely claimed that the IDS was run using taxpayer dollars. In fact, the paper is editorially independent from the university and is funded via advertisements and the events it holds. Beckwith concluded his tirade against the publication by stating, “This type of elitist leftist propaganda needs to stop or we will be happy to stop it for them.” As the new second-in-command in the state, Beckwith should refrain from abusing one of the nation’s finest institutions.
Each week, the State Party will highlight key policy from Democrats at the Statehouse or across the state. Democrats deliver a better future for Hoosier families, and we urge you to share this information with your networks.
State Rep. Phil GiaQuinta will continue to serve as the leader of Indiana House Democrats alongside Floor Leader Cherrish Pryor and Caucus Chair Carey Hamilton.
During his time in Indiana’s General Assembly, GiaQuinta has become known for defending quality education, fighting to expand healthcare access and affordability, and promoting local businesses. He has served as a state representative since 2006.
“I’m thankful that House Democrats have once again entrusted me to lead our efforts at the Statehouse to protect our freedoms and build up Indiana’s working class. As we enter next year’s budget session, Indiana House Democrats’ priorities are the same as they always have been: people before profit. That means fully funding our public schools, keeping healthcare costs low and empowering our local communities to better become places where people want to live, work, play and stay,” GiaQuinta said in a press release.
