INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization advocating for the future of Indiana and its families and workers, criticized the Republican supermajority at the statehouse for pushing needless, partisan culture wars while statehouse Democrats are delivering for Hoosier families, students, and workers. Just this past week, the INGOP have voted to arm teachers with firearms, created unnecessary hurdles for Hoosiers to vote by mail, and expanded an unregulated school choice system – even a Republican senator broke with his party to support public schools.

Meanwhile, Democrats at the statehouse are committed to finding solutions to the challenges facing Indiana. Democratic legislators are championing bills that propose pragmatic solutions to tackle a growing housing affordability crisis, guaranteeing testing of preschool drinking water, and refining strategies to combat violent crime.

“While the people of Indiana are calling for their leaders to address practical issues, Indiana Democrats are offering concrete solutions to meet the needs of Hoosiers,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chair of the Indiana Democratic Party. “On the other hand, the INGOP’s agenda is more focused on advancing culture wars and catering to specific interests, rather than finding effective ways to solve the most pressing problems affecting families and workers in the state.”

Fact is: Indiana’s future has dimmed under the GOP’s nearly 20-year watch. Hoosiers have a F rated quality-of-life and the state has a D- rated workforce, a C- rated education system, the third worst maternal mortality rate in the nation, and the country’s most polluted waterways. Republicans have ignored the warning signs from Indiana’s top business leaders and their taxpayer-funded reports in order to push an out-of-the-mainstream agenda that creates problems instead of solving them.
