Indiana Democrats and the Rescue Plan continue to deliver for Hoosier families by solving today’s most-pressing problems facing the state

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan for once again creating a better future for Hoosier families. This time, about $540 million will be used to help alleviate Indiana’s childcare crisis across the state, including pay raises and bonuses for workers, facility updates, and funding for childcare providers to pay rent and keep the doors open.
The Rescue Plan is solving today’s problems facing Indiana businesses and Hoosier families, but it’ll be President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda that’ll take this initial investment to the #NextLevel. About 55% of Hoosier families currently live in a childcare desert, and after this once-in-a-generation infrastructure investment passes, Democrats will eliminate childcare deserts and deliver a better future for Indiana’s families.
Unfortunately, not one Indiana Republican – from the state’s Congressional delegation to even Governor Eric Holcomb – supported the American Rescue Plan. Republicans’ extreme partisanship forced them to say “NO” to the Rescue Plan, which ultimately provided $250 million in state broadband internet investments, fully-funded Indiana’s public schools, and delivered a pay raise for educators. The Republicans’ never-ending opposition against Democrats is partisanship at its worst and does nothing but hold Hoosiers back from reaching better opportunities.

“Indiana is making more than half a billion dollars available to early learning providers across the state, through a grant program that aims to stabilize the industry as some providers struggle to keep their doors open.
The Build Learn Grow Stabilization Grants are designed to help providers navigate a wide range of challenges as the pandemic continues; the money can be used to help pay for things like the rent for their buildings, hiring bonuses or increased pay to recruit more staff, and software to streamline business operations.
In total, the state is using federal COVID-19 relief from the American Rescue Plan Act to make $540 million available through the program.” […]
WISH: Indiana starts $540M grant program for child education impacted by COVID-19
“Eligible child care, early care and education, and out-of-school time programs will be able to apply for the grants, which are being made possible through American Rescue Plan Act funding the state has received.
The FSSA says the funds will be distributed across at least two grant rounds, with the first round covering operating expenses for providers for three months. Recipients will be able to use the funds to cover personnel costs, employee recruitment and retention, facility fees such as rent, mortgages or utilities, facility maintenance and improvements, business supports such as new software, COVID-19 safety-related needs and mental health supports.”
