INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated the continued impact President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan is having on communities across the state. Hoosier families this week will see checks hitting their mailboxes and bank accounts to help make ends meet and put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. This provision expands on the Child Tax Credit and will help lift more than 80,000 Indiana children out of poverty. Further, Indiana Office of Management and Budget Director Cris Johnston admitted yesterday that because of the Rescue Plan, Indiana found itself in a strong fiscal position to end FY2021, and it’s why Hoosiers could receive an additional tax credit next year.
The American Rescue Plan is why Indiana and Hoosier families are beginning to put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. But, not a single Indiana Republican in the Congressional delegation supported the Rescue Plan. In fact, Republicans now have a track record of using federal dollars provided by the American Rescue Plan for the state’s use – including $250 million in broadband expansion, $500 million in economic development projects, and infrastructure projects. The problem? Indiana Republicans tout these projects as their own even though they voted “no” on the Rescue Plan dough.
The Indiana Democratic Party plans to hold the Indiana Republican Party accountable for trying to have it both ways on the American Rescue Plan. If Republicans attack Democrats over “spending” during the 2022 midterm and state elections, the state party will remind voters about yesterday’s press conference, the state budget from the 2021 legislative session, and mailers delivered to constituents touting Rescue Plan investments as their own success.

“Thousands of Bartholomew County families are expected to start receiving the first of six monthly payments of up to $300 per child on Thursday as part of an expanded tax credit that is projected to cut U.S. child poverty in half.
The payments are part of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus rescue package, which temporarily increased the child tax credit for one year and made it possible for the Treasury Department to pre-pay half of the benefits on a monthly basis starting this week, The Associated press reported.
Couples earning $150,000 or less, or single parents that make up to $112,500, can receive full payments on the 15th of every month through the rest of the year, in most cases by direct deposit, according to the White House.
Recipients can get up to half of their annual child tax credit paid up front before they file taxes next year, which amounts to $1,800 in advance for each child under age 6, generally paid in six monthly installments of $300 through December, according to the Internal Revenue Service. For children age 6 to 17, recipients can get up to $1,500 in advance in six monthly payments of $250.”
