Kokomo Tribune: “Indiana Sen. Todd Young, a Republican, introduced a proposal to expand childcare options for families with colleagues Tim Scott, R-South Carolina, and Richard Burr, R-North Carolina.”
ICYMI: The American Rescue Plan is investing $540 million to combat Indiana’s child care deserts, crisis across the state – Young voted “NO”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Senator Todd Young for trying to have it both ways on the issue of child care. This week, Young introduced legislation to make childcare more affordable for Hoosier families. The problem: Young already voted “NO” on a $540 million childcare investment provided by the American Rescue Plan. The Rescue Plan’s investment will raise worker wages, update facilities, and eliminate some of the existing provider desert across Indiana. Those are solutions to the exact problems Todd Young says he wants to solve.
Earth to Todd Young: Partisanship is not more important than delivering on the issues important to Hoosier Families. Young again proves the Indiana GOP has no plans for the state’s future – just partisanship.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats are hard at work creating a brighter future for Hoosier families. With the American Rescue Plan and The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (The Jobs Act), André Carson, Frank Mrvan, and Democrats at the statehouse are creating good-paying jobs, combating high childcare costs, supporting Indiana’s law enforcement, funding public education at levels not seen in a decade, and revitalizing the state’s infrastructure systems.
Democrats are delivering the kitchen-table issues that matter most to families and voters. The Indiana GOP: no plans – just partisanship.
SHOT: Todd Young Introduces Legislation to Combat Childcare Costs
Kokomo Tribune: “The high cost to parents compounds with staffing shortages and a lack of quality providers across the state. In response to a more expansive plan proposed by Congressional Democrats, Indiana Sen. Todd Young, a Republican, introduced a proposal to expand child care options for families with colleagues Tim Scott, R-South Carolina, and Richard Burr, R-North Carolina.
‘I understand that the child care access problem won’t be solved overnight. There are many factors that prevent families from accessing care,’ Young said in an email response to questions. ‘I helped introduce this bill because it is a sensible option to make strides in access and quality, while being cognizant of the fiscal challenges facing our country.’”

Indiana Public Media: “Indiana Public Media: “Indiana is making more than half a billion dollars available to early learning providers across the state, through a grant program that aims to stabilize the industry as some providers struggle to keep their doors open.
The Build Learn Grow Stabilization Grants are designed to help providers navigate a wide range of challenges as the pandemic continues; the money can be used to help pay for things like the rent for their buildings, hiring bonuses or increased pay to recruit more staff, and software to streamline business operations.
In total, the state is using federal COVID-19 relief from the American Rescue Plan Act to make $540 million available through the program.”
