INDIANAPOLIS — The United States Senate on Tuesday voted to extend critical aid to Ukraine in its fight against Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Eastern Europe, as well as aid packages to Israel and Taiwan in their fight against terror and authoritarianism.
Mike Braun voted against it for cloture, putting the interests of Putin and Hamas ahead of America’s allies in Ukraine and Israel.
Braun has made compromise and common sense an enemy throughout his Senate term. He helped kill a bipartisan border security bill to appease Trump earlier this year that would have added hundreds more border patrol agents and immigration judges.
He is also using Tuesday’s vote as an excuse to miss tonight’s GOP gubernatorial debate in Indianapolis. Final passage of the bill is expected Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning with a large bipartisan majority.
“Now more than ever, our allies in Ukraine and Israel are looking to the United States for leadership and support,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl. “Mike Braun has failed the leadership test once again, putting petty politics ahead of doing what is right, and protecting freedom and democracy.
“Whether it’s killing a bipartisan agreement to strengthen our border, trying to ban abortion nationwide, letting the states decide interracial marriage, or leaving our allies behind, Braun’s servile MAGA loyalty is his first priority.
“As he showed today, Braun votes in lockstep with the most extreme of the MAGA agenda, and Hoosiers deserve more common sense and compromise from our leaders — traits Braun has lacked in Washington D.C.”
