INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today pointed out how U.S. Congressman Greg Pence’s opposition to President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (The Jobs Act) is made up and not rooted in actual facts. Pence said during an interview with Fox59 this week that he voted “NO” on The Jobs Act because it “leaves rural communities out of the conversation”.
But, Greg Pence may have missed Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s stop in Tell City – a rural community – last week to promote The Jobs Act’s $1.6 million investment to the town’s port system. Pence may also not have heard about President Biden’s Rural Infrastructure Playbook announced last week.
Greg Pence and the Indiana Republican Party continue to show they have no plans for Indiana’s future – just partisanship. Their opposition to The Jobs Act was a bet against Indiana’s future.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats are hard at work creating a brighter future for Hoosier families. With the American Rescue Plan and The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (The Jobs Act), Democrats are creating good-paying jobs, expanding broadband access, and revitalizing the state’s infrastructure systems – including Tell City’s ports. Democrats are delivering the kitchen-table issues that matter most to rural voters. The Indiana GOP: no plans – just partisanship.

FOX59: “As officials from the White House tour the country to tout the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Rep. Pence feels that the legislation leaves rural communities out of the conversation. Rep. Pence voted against the bill in Congress, and feels that the law benefits transit systems in big cities.
‘The definition of urban that was the focus of the infrastructure bill I think was wrong,” Rep. Pence said. ‘I represent mainly rural Indiana. What we should do is focus on that and expand that, which we didn’t do.’”

“U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stopped in Tell City Wednesday to highlight President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the current work the department is doing to improve and modernize our nation’s infrastructure in rural communities.
He took a tour of the Tell City Port alongside local leaders and discuss the recent DOT grant to upgrade the port’s infrastructure.
Tell City has received a $1.6 million federal grant to fund a 40-foot diameter pier for a crane that will unload cargo. The current pier is unusable because it’s floating.”
