INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement after Senate Bill 418 appeared in peril and the committee chairman withheld a vote on the measure.
“Leaders take action. It’s clear the hate crimes bill is dividing Indiana Republicans and some in the governor’s Party are on the wrong side of history. Republicans’ foot-dragging is imperiling what is a slam dunk. If this is important to the governor’s business attraction efforts, it’s clear he can’t stay silent. An endorsement from Holcomb puts this bill back on track and gently reminds GOP lawmakers who leads their Party. It’s time for Holcomb to put politics aside and do what’s right for Hoosiers. Get out front, governor. Lead on this issue. Take a strong, public stance that there is no room for hate or intolerance in the Hoosier state and we’re willing to codify it. Amazon is watching.”
