INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Democratic Party released the following statement from IDP Vice Chair and Marion County Democratic Party Chair Myla Eldridge today:
“Indianapolis deserves a mayor who will fight against the General Assembly to protect women’s rights, not celebrate with them when they are taken away. Jefferson Shreve is not the leader we need in this critical moment.
Instead of advocating for the fundamental rights of our mothers, daughters, and sisters, Jefferson Shreve has consistently aligned himself with the far right-wing of his party and the Republican supermajority in the Statehouse. In his 2016 campaign for the state legislature, Jefferson also ran on a platform of “protecting the unborn” and would have voted to ban abortion in Indiana. It’s clear Jefferson thinks he should have more power over women’s bodies than women themselves.
Mayor Joe Hogsett has consistently demonstrated his commitment to supporting Indianapolis women. He understands the importance of upholding their rights and ensuring access to comprehensive healthcare. With Mayor Joe Hogsett’s leadership and our collective efforts, we can ensure that Indianapolis remains a city where women’s rights are respected and championed.”
