Fox 59: Indiana Democrats call for suspending gas sales tax amid soaring prices
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party for refusing to help ease the burden high gas prices have brought to Hoosier families. Holcomb announced this week he would not support lowering the price at the pump because the state hadn’t yet “hit that threshold”. Tell that to Hoosier families struggling to afford gas and make ends meet. These comments follow the statehouse Republican supermajority’s decision to oppose pausing the gas tax during the 2022 legislative session.
Governor Holcomb’s remarks are another reminder the Indiana Republican Party has no plan to address higher costs burdening families, just partisanship.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats have a plan to solve this important kitchen-table issue for Hoosier families. During the 2022 legislative session, statehouse Democrats proposed issuing a temporary pause on the state’s gas tax. This would have saved Hoosiers 30 cents and a 7-percent sales tax per gallon of gas. For a Hoosier buying 20 gallons of gas a week, that would save them at least $126 a month. Indiana Democrats advocated for these savings, but the Indiana GOP said “NO” because they put their partisanship ahead of a brighter future for Hoosiers.

Greg Pence: “President Biden raiding the strategic petroleum reserve yet again is a temporary band-aid on a bigger problem this Administration is unwilling to genuinely address.”

“Dagney Faulk, a Ball State University economist, said, based on current consumption rates, the extra oil could cut the price you pay at the pump by 15 cents to 20 cents per gallon on average.”
