Inside Indiana Business: Greater Columbus Area awarded $30M in READI grants
Don’t Forget: The American Rescue Plan provides historic investments in the state’s READI program
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today asked Governor Eric Holcomb to be honest about the real reason behind Columbus and South Central Indiana’s bright economic future: the American Rescue Plan. Holcomb is expected to tout the next phase of the state’s READI program in Columbus this morning. But here’s the kicker: President Joe Biden’s Rescue Plan is paying for the programs Holcomb will celebrate during today’s press event.
“Governor Eric Holcomb owes President Joe Biden a big ‘thank you’ for fully-funding the state’s READI program. Thanks to Indiana Democrats, new workforce and economic opportunities will help communities like Bartholomew County thrive,” said Lauren Ganapini, executive director of the Indiana Democratic Party. “Unfortunately, Holcomb’s Indiana Republican Party said ‘NO’ to the projects the governor celebrates because they put their extremist views ahead of the kitchen-table issues that matter most to Hoosiers. The Indiana GOP: no plans, just extreme partisanship.”
Bartholomew County and the City of Columbus have a brighter future ahead because of the American Rescue Plan. Thanks to Indiana Democrats, about $38.5 million was provided to the community to help recover from lost revenues caused by the pandemic. The state’s READI program also announced about a $30 million investment for regional economic development projects in the community. Simply put: Democrats delivered for Hoosiers when it mattered most.
In contrast, the Indiana Republican Party – including Governor Holcomb – said “NO” to this brighter future. Politicians like Todd Young and Larry Bucshon voted “NO” on these investments, and Indiana GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer even claimed this opposition was a “great campaign to run on”. It’s become quite clear that while Democrats are creating a better future for Hoosiers, the Indiana GOP has no plan for the state – just an extremist agenda.
