INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out Governor Eric Holcomb for lying to Hoosiers about the effort – or lack thereof – he’s putting into helping Hoosiers get their COVID-19 vaccine. The Governor claimed yesterday he was “trying to do everything [he could]” to get shots in arms. However, after scanning Holcomb’s social media platforms and double-checking recent media events, the Governor’s claims are not matching up with reality. Holcomb has failed to promote any form of vaccine effort online since April, and what’s worse, the Governor has not held a single media briefing about the pandemic in more than 156 days.
The truth is, Eric Holcomb has done everything he’s politically comfortable doing to fight the coronavirus, and he’s no longer abiding by his promise to use “facts on the ground” to guide Hoosiers through COVID-19. Holcomb may discuss vaccines, but only after he’s chased down by the media about it. Instead, the Governor has reverted his effort to fit the extreme partisanship of the Indiana Republican Party – one that attacks vaccines and preventative measures. This agenda is in direct contradiction to the pleas and advice from Holcomb’s state health commissioner, who recently said Indiana’s “darkest time” is to come because “things are going to get much worse” for Hoosiers over the next month.
Eric Holcomb’s partisanship is causing Indiana to put up a white flag in its fight against COVID-19, and his political agenda is exactly why the state continues to be “on fire”.
