Washington Post: “The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office”
Politico: At $2.3 trillion cost, Trump tax cuts leave big gap
Trey Hollingsworth op-ed: The growing national debt is concern for Hoosiers
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on the Indiana press corps to hold the Indiana Republican Party accountable for their blatant dishonesty about the national debt and government spending. Recently, Indiana Republicans like U.S. Congressman Trey Hollingsworth, U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, and U.S Senator Todd Young have used the topic of spending as a way to oppose President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan and upcoming American Jobs Plan. Their criticism of cost is not rooted in reality considering Republicans like Hollingsworth and Young voted for the $2.3 trillion tax law and the entire Indiana Republican Party had a hand at raising the national debt by $7.8 trillion under the four years of the Trump-Pence Administration.
Indiana Republicans will try to use national spending as a campaign issue for the 2022 midterm and 2024 elections, and accountability for their strategy to lie to voters is essential. Further, the INGOP is showing once again how they are a political party without a moral compass or identity.
“The Indiana Republican Party proved their talking points about the national debt only applied when a Democrat was in the White House, because if they truly valued fiscal responsibility, they wouldn’t have allowed former President Trump to balloon the national debt by nearly $8 trillion,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Republicans like Trey Hollingsworth and Todd Young are deploying their greatest hits with voters because they’d rather lie to them than actually tell them the truth, and it’s that the Indiana Republican Party stands for nothing and only earns support through extreme partisanship, culture wars, and misinformation.”
Here’s some of the low-level political stunts on spending Republicans like U.S. Congressman Trey Hollingsworth have pulled since President Biden has assumed office:
Rep. Trey Hollingsworth, June 11, 2021: The growing national debt is concern for Hoosiers
Note: Hollingsworth voted for the $2 trillion tax law in 2017, oversaw $7.8 trillion being added to the national debt under President Trump.
U.S. Senator Todd Young, June 1, 2021: “Inflation is putting the pinch on Hoosier families and small businesses. What’s the Biden Administration’s solution? An additional $6 TRILLION in unprecedented, reckless spending.”
Note: Young voted for the $2 trillion tax law in 2017, oversaw $7.8 trillion being added to the national debt under President Trump.
U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, May 8, 2021: “After 100 days of Biden’s presidency, we’ve seen enough. Jobs lost, out-of-control spending, and a crisis at our border. House Republicans will continue to stand up to the outrageous legislation pushed by the White House.”
Note: Walorski voted for the $2 trillion tax law in 2017, oversaw $7.8 trillion being added to the national debt under President Trump.
U.S. Congressman Jim Baird, May 4, 2021: “Last week, I met with Hoosier farmers and they shared concerns about President Biden’s vision of growing the federal government and what that means for them.”
Note: Baird oversaw $7.8 trillion being added to the national debt under President Trump.
