Washington Post: “The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office”
Politico: At $2.3 trillion cost, Trump tax cuts leave big gap
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on the Indiana press corps to hold the Indiana Republican Party accountable for their blatant dishonesty about the ongoing debt limit and national debt conversations happening in Washington, D.C. Congressional Indiana Republicans’ opposition and willingness to allow the nation default on its debts is the worst form of extreme partisanship and a political flip-flop after they voted to raise the debt limit three times under the Trump Administration. Further, this conversation is not rooted in reality considering Indiana Republicans voted for the $2.3 trillion tax law and had a hand at raising the national debt by $7.8 trillion under the four years of the Trump Administration.
Indiana Republicans will try to use national spending as a campaign issue for the 2022 midterm and 2024 elections, and accountability for their strategy to lie to voters is essential. Further, the INGOP is showing once again how they are a political party without a moral compass or identity.
“The Indiana Republican Party is provingtheir talking points about the national debt only apply when a Democrat is in the White House, because if they truly valued fiscal responsibility, they wouldn’t have allowed former President Trump to balloon the national debt by nearly $8 trillion,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Indiana Republicans are deploying their greatest hits with voters because they’d rather lie to them than actually tell them the truth, and it’s that the Indiana Republicans are standing up for less and less these days besides extreme partisanship, culture wars, and misinformation.”
Here’s how ridiculous the INGOP’s partisanship matches up with the facts:
FACT: Indiana Republicans Raised the Debt Limit Three Times, Added $7.8 Trillion to National Debt under President Trump
Washington Post: “The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office”
Politico: At $2.3 trillion cost, Trump tax cuts leave big gap
Washington Post: “The hypocrisy is stunning. McConnell has voted to increase or suspend the debt limit 32 times, including thrice under Trump, who added $7.8 trillion to the debt…”
PARTISANSHIP: INGOP Willing to Have USA Default on Its Debts Because of Their Extreme Partisanship
CNN: All seven Indiana Republicans in the U.S. House Congressional delegation voted “NO” to raise the debt limit, despite many voting “YES” under the Trump Administration
U.S. Senator Mike Braun: “Democrats want a blank check to inject trillions of dollars of federal government into our lives, and I will not vote to help them by raising the debt limit.”
U.S. Congressman Jim Banks: “Tonight, I’ll be voting against Democrats’ attempt to raise the debt ceiling for their socialist spending plan…”
U.S. Congressman Larry Bucshon: “By offering this Continuing Resolution to temporarily fund the government and raise the debt ceiling, Congressional Democrats are asking for a blank check to continue their reckless spending spree that will add to the record high inflation rates, raise taxes, and expand the federal government’s role in Hoosiers’ everyday lives.”
U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski: “If President Biden and Congressional Democrats want to pass a $3.5 trillion spending spree without a single Republican vote, then they will have to raise the debt ceiling on their own. This problem is a direct consequence of their reckless spending and left-wing politics.”
