INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today issued the following fact check to hold U.S. Senator Mike Braun, Attorney General Todd Rokita, and the Indiana Republican Party accountable for what is expected to be a press event focused on peddling misinformation and extreme rhetoric against the American Jobs Plan, a once-in-a-generation investment to Indiana’s infrastructure system. In fact, Hoosiers and members of the media shouldn’t expect to hear any actual substance or vision for Indiana with today’s press conference from the INGOP. They care more about their extreme partisanship and getting a political “W” than delivering a better future for Hoosier families.
“Indiana Democrats spent this summer meeting Hoosiers in more than 40 counties to celebrate the impact the American Rescue Plan brought to the state and explain why our communities need the American Jobs Plan and its historic investment in Indiana’s infrastructure system. Today’s town hall event with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is another example of Democrats going on offense to deliver solutions to today’s most-pressing problems facing Hoosier families,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “Democrats’ vision for a better future is supported by a huge majority of Americans, but it unfortunately faces a pesky minority of Republicans like Mike Braun and Todd Rokita who’d rather repeat debunked, partisan talking points than actually get stuff done for Hoosiers. It’s the GOP’s right to oppose the Jobs Plan, but it’s also worth noting they’ll be quick to take the cash — and political credit — once it reaches Indiana, just like they did with the American Rescue Plan.”

Public transportation systems in Indiana would see an additional $682 million through existing formula-based programs, and the state also could expect $100 million over five years to support the expansion of its electric vehicle, or EV, charging network.
The act also includes assistance for broadband internet service expansion. Indiana would receive a minimum of $100 million to help improve service, including by providing broadband access to the 217,000 Hoosiers who currently lack it. Further, an estimated 1.6 million people in Indiana would be eligible for the Affordability Connectivity Benefit, which will help low-income families afford internet access.”
