The Hill: House GOP Won’t Pursue Comprehensive Immigration Bill
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out the Indiana Republican Party for misleading Hoosiers about their record on immigration. In the last 24 hours, Republicans like U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun, Attorney General Todd Rokita, and U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski all criticized President Joe Biden for the increase in asylum seekers along the country’s Southern border.
Indiana Republicans claimed Biden “fails to do anything” and demanded the Biden Administration “secure the border” and “get tough” on cartels.
But here’s the truth: The Indiana GOP’s concerns would have been addressed nine years ago had Congress passed comprehensive immigration reform. Former U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly voted “YES”, former U.S. Senator Dan Coats voted “NO”, and Indiana Republicans like Todd Young and Jackie Walorski ignored the legislation altogether.
The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan bill in 2013 which would have increased security along the border, required a mandatory workplace verification system for employers, installed a visa program for low-skilled workers, and established a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Despite the Indiana GOP’s “NO”, Democrats continue to back a bipartisan, comprehensive approach on immigration reform. Democrats supported it nine years ago in Congress, because it would solve the problems facing many families.

WIBC: Senator Todd Young Raises Illegal Immigration Concerns
Jackie Walorski: “Over a year into his presidency, Joe Biden fails to do anything to address the open border policies he put in place on day one. Now, the Customs & Border Patrol is expecting more than 8,000 people to be apprehended daily. This must END.”
Mike Braun: “The #BidenBorderCrisis is out of control and it’s time for Biden to secure our border NOW!”
Todd Rokita: “Biden’s policies are only making this crisis worse. This is not just a border state issue. It’s an all-state issue.”

POLITICO: Senate passes immigration bill
“The Senate on Thursday passed the most monumental overhaul of U.S. immigration laws in a generation, which would clear the way for millions of undocumented residents to have a chance at citizenship, attract workers from all over the world and devote unprecedented resources for security along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The vote was 68-32. Fourteen Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with all Democrats in favor. Thursday’s vote now puts the onus of immigration reform on the Republican-led House, where leaders have been resistant to the Senate legislation.” […]
“The Gang of Eight bill would essentially revamp every corner of U.S. immigration law, establishing a 13-year pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants, with several security benchmarks that have to be met before they can obtain a green card. The measure would not only increases security along the border, but requires a mandatory workplace verification system for employers, trying to ensure no jobs are given to immigrants who are not authorized to work in the United States.”
