James Briggs, IndyStar: “The most interesting thing to me about this case is that it’s requiring Indiana to further articulate its mission of forcing citizens to take low-wage jobs at the expense of families’ quality of life.”
Brandon Smith, Indiana Public Media: “By my count, this is the ninth time over the last decade Indiana has been taken to court over a newly-passed anti-abortion law. The state has lost, at least initially, in every single one.”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Governor Eric Holcomb and Attorney General Todd Rokita for their crusade to cause “irreparable harm” on Hoosier workers wishing for a full recovery from COVID-19. Yesterday, Rokita’s office requested a stay from a judge order which stopped the Republicans’ partisan fix to the state’s ongoing worker shortage. Rokita’s office claimed the benefits would cause “irreparable harm” to Hoosiers, but Democrats and economists remain adamant that in order to correct these economic problems, Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party must raise worker wages across Indiana. This can be accomplished by increasing the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour, which would boost opportunity for more than 892,000 Hoosiers.
Further, Indiana Republicans went 0-2 in the courts this week after two judges blocked a series of new laws that were rooted in extreme partisanship and misinformation. The new measures include an attack on teacher unions and Hoosier workers and the Republicans’ continued assault on Hoosier women’s ability to have a safe and legal abortion. As these lawsuits move up the courts and waste taxpayer dollars, it bears repeating Indiana Republicans’ agenda solely rests on extreme partisanship that creates “irreparable harm” to the future of Indiana and its families.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats are delivering for Indiana and its families. Thanks to President Joe Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, Indiana finally has a chance to put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. This includes providing $5.8 billion in relief to Indiana and its communities and $250 million for broadband internet expansion. Further, the upcoming American Jobs Plan will create good-paying jobs for Hoosier workers, revitalize the state’s infrastructure system, and begin to solve infrastructure needs that are keeping some workers at home – including expensive childcare costs.

IndyStar: Reinstating federal unemployment benefits would ‘irreparably harm’ Hoosiers, state says
“Hoosiers would be “irreparably harmed” by a judge’s order requiring the state to keep federal unemployment benefits flowing because it would hamper Indiana’s economic recovery, lawyers with the Indiana Attorney General’s Office said Tuesday.” […]
“That argument was rebuffed by the state’s attorneys in documents filed Tuesday.
The state also requested a new judge in the case — a request that was granted by the court on Monday.”
