This is the third time in less than a month when Indiana Republicans have supported the American Rescue Plan
Sullivan now joins Congressman Greg Pence in promoting policies passed by Democrats – despite INGOP partisan opposition
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out Secretary of State Holli Sullivan for promoting policies funded by President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan despite every one of her Republican colleagues in Indiana’s Congressional delegation voting “no” on the legislation. Holli Sullivan now joins a list of Indiana Republicans – including Congressmen Greg Pence, Governor Eric Holcomb, and Statehouse Republicans – in their attempt to have it both ways on the Rescue Plan even though their extreme partisanship is getting in the way of building better opportunities for Hoosier families.
The Indiana press corps should expect this strategy from the Indiana Republican Party moving forward, because as Mitch McConnell even said this week, Republicans are “100% focused” on stopping the Biden-Harris Administration and their plans to rebuild Indiana’s infrastructure and improve the lives of Hoosiers. That is, until policies become law – then they’ll quietly take the cash.

This is why the Indiana Democratic Party and its leaders are stepping up and delivering for Hoosier families. Democrats supported the American Rescue Plan because it delivered $1,400 checks to 91-percent of Hoosiers while it provided $5.8 billion to Indiana and its cities and towns. The legislation was common sense and will put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. Indiana Democrats also look forward to supporting the upcoming American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan in the coming months, because partnerships with the federal government – not rigid partisanship – will provide better security and help create better opportunities for Hoosier families.
Here’s a brief reminder of the hypocrisy building from the Indiana Republican Party:
The Columbus Republic: ‘HELP IS ON THE WAY’: Pence touts relief bill he voted against
“On Wednesday, Pence took to Twitter to tout the Restaurant Revitalization Fund established in the American Rescue Plan Act and included links directing people to more information about the program and how to apply.”
IndyStar: In rare bipartisan unity, lawmakers pass state budget with robust K-12 spending
“In their final hours at the Indiana Statehouse Thursday, lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the two-year state budget filled with one-time spending and an unexpected amount of new education dollars.
In a rare move, nearly every Democrat voted for the $37.4 billion two-year budget drafted largely by Republican leaders, who have supermajorites in the Statehouse. In fact, the budget received the most “yes” votes of any budget bill this century.”
“Plus, the state received roughly $3 billion directly from the American Rescue Plan, a fact Democrats were quick to point out, that lawmakers could use for one-time expenses, such as infrastructure.”
