INDIANAPOLIS – While Republicans are pushing a bill to take health care away from working families, Democrats are working together to stabilize health care markets. Like each of Republicans’ previous attempts, the Cassidy-Graham-Heller-Johnson bill would sabotage the health care system, gut Medicaid, increase costs, and strip health care away from millions of Americans.
“This is just another Republican attempt at taking health care away from working families, pure and simple,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody. “Passing this bill would mean higher heath care costs for working families. Republicans need to listen to the Hoosiers they represent and join Democrats in their efforts to stabilize and improve our health care system.”
Here is a look at a few of the ways Hoosiers will lose out under the Cassidy-Graham bill:
-Ends the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion and by extension, HIP 2.0, which covers 412,000 Hoosiers.
-Cancels tax credits that help 107,994 Hoosiers – 73 percent of Indiana Marketplace enrollees – afford health insurance.
-Tax credits help offset $262 in monthly premiums on average.
-Eliminates subsidies that reduce out-of-pocket costs for 68,937 Hoosiers, 47 percent of the total Marketplace enrollees in Indiana.
-Indiana would see federal funding decrease by $425 million by 2026 as a result of block granting and Medicaid per capita caps.
