INGOP on Sunday: “Thanks to Biden’s leftist tax and spending proposals…”
U.S. Senator Mike Braun on Tuesday: “President Biden claims he won’t tax the middle class, but he already has. Americans are paying for his big spending at the grocery store and the gas pump every day.”
In 2017, INGOP – including Braun – voted to raise the gas tax on Hoosier motorists
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized the Indiana Republican Party for their continued hypocrisy with its messaging against President Joe Biden’s build back better agenda for Indiana and its families. This time, U.S. Senator Mike Braun and the Indiana Republican Party itself falsely claimed the upcoming American Jobs Plan will raise taxes on Hoosier families. The reality: the Jobs Plan will raise taxes on big corporations and Indiana’s Top 1-percent – a far cry from the partisan rhetoric being used by Indiana Republicans. In fact, a large majority of Hoosiers would see a tax *cut* under the Jobs Plan.
The “ope” moment: Indiana Republicans in the Indiana General Assembly voted in 2017 to raise the gas tax on Hoosier motorists, including Mike Braun himself.
But, this is the Indiana Republican Party. The organization is going through an identity crisis and their vision for the state consists of extreme partisanship and misinformation. This includes a Republican Party that’s willing to attack Democrats on issues they are guilty of committing – like raising the national debt by $7.8 trillion and raising taxes on Hoosiers. For the INGOP, they’d rather waste taxpayer dollars and watch Indiana fall behind the rest of the nation as long as their outdated, rhetorical litmus tests are fulfilled.
The Indiana Democratic Party, in contrast, continues to deliver for Hoosier families. Not only did Democrats in Congress and at the Statehouse support the American Rescue Plan and the direct relief it’s providing Indiana, but they look forward to supporting (and passing) the upcoming American Jobs Plan and the opportunity to build a better tomorrow for Hoosier families.
