Fox59: American Rescue Plan to fund city transit projects including IndyGo Purple Line
Worth remembering: Not a single Indiana Republican supported the American Rescue Plan, despite Statehouse GOP gleefully using its cash
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today echoed the continued success of President Joe Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan and the opportunity it’s providing Indiana to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced IndyGo’s upcoming Purple Line – a part of the city’s larger Bus Rapid Transit Program – would receive about $12 million in critical investments needed for the project. This announcement by Secretary Pete Buttigieg provides yet another example of how the Rescue Plan is putting COVID-19 in the rearview mirror while creating better opportunities for Indiana and its families.
In fact, Indiana Democrats have gotten to work on behalf of Hoosier families and every one of Indiana’s 92 counties. Thanks to U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan, Jr., the American Rescue Plan is providing about $5.8 billion in relief for Indiana and its communities and close to $2 billion for school districts across the state. Further, Democrats in the Indiana General Assembly secured $250 million in broadband expansion and $500 million in construction projects.
In contrast, not a single Indiana Republican in the state’s Congressional delegation supported the American Rescue Plan. What’s worse, the Republican supermajority at the Indiana General Assembly issued mailers celebrating the same investments in broadband and construction projects that their Congressional colleagues opposed. Indiana Republicans’ extreme partisanship has no limits, and their attempt to have it both ways will fall short as Hoosiers learn about the Rescue Plan’s good news through the Indiana Democratic Party’s ongoing press tour across Indiana.
