INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today once again put a spotlight on Governor Eric Holcomb and his consistent failure to provide teachers — and Indiana’s essential workers — access to a COVID-19 vaccine. Holcomb’s mismanagement of this issue reached a breaking point last weekend after the governor put a halt to a loophole on the matter, which provided vaccines to teachers who waited on pharmacy standby lists.
The Holcomb Administration’s communications error deepened the rift between the governor and Indiana’s teachers — with some educators wondering if Indiana even “valued” them overall. Teachers had every reason to doubt Holcomb after he time and again showed disrespect toward them and Indiana’s public schools system. This disrespect includes Eric Holcomb breaking his campaign promise to deliver a pay raise for teachers and cutting funding from Indiana’s public schools.
It’s worth noting the Indianapolis City-County Council and the Vigo County School Board have now joined teacher unions, teachers across Indiana, and the Indiana Democratic Party in calling for Indiana’s teachers to be priority for a vaccine. Bottom line: Hoosiers have learned they cannot trust Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party to protect and invest in Indiana’s public school system.
