Huston touts READI program and pay raise to Indiana’s teachers – all thanks to the American Rescue Plan

ICYMI: State Senator Mark Messmer also celebrates Democrats’ investments to broadband expansion across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today praised Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston for touting President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan and its much-needed relief for Hoosier families. In his Organization Day Address, Huston made time to celebrate how Indiana’s teachers received a pay raise and the state provided investments to Governor Eric Holcomb’s READI program. The kicker? These critical investments were only made possible because of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Had it not been for the Rescue Plan, educators would not have been handed a pay raise and the READI program would not have experienced #NextLevel funding.

But this is the state of the Indiana Republican Party. Elected officials like Todd Huston, Mark Messmer, and Governor Eric Holcomb tout investments in broadband, manufacturing, and education without being honest with Hoosiers about how the state government received these dollars. Further, Indiana Republicans like Todd Young, Jackie Walorski, and Kyle Hupfer would rather call the READI program, a pay raise for educators, and infrastructure “socialism”. In fact, Hupfer claimed their opposition to the state’s recent success is “a great campaign to run on” for the 2022 elections. 

Indiana Democrats disagree, and we’re ready to crisscross the state to share with Hoosiers how it is Democrats – not Republicans – who are creating a better future for their families. This means Democrats will celebrate the success of the American Rescue Plan, The Jobs Act’s transformational infrastructure investments, and the effort to legalize cannabis across Indiana. Democrats are leading on key issues most important to Hoosiers while the INGOP continues to show they are betting against Indiana’s future.
