INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party today formally filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission after the Republican Governors Association failed to comply with election guidelines with the FEC on their two campaign ads against John Gregg.

According to regulations set by the FEC, candidates, third party organizations, or political committees like the RGA must carry disclaimers with their content – including television advertisements – regardless of the content of the ad. This disclaimer must specify the name and permanent street address, telephone number, or website address and specify that the content of the ad was not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s campaign. For TV ads, this must be both written and spoken during the airing of the ad. In both ads attacking John Gregg, the RGA failed to comply with these regulations.

“Mike Pence broke his promise on no negative campaigning, and he allowed the RGA to produce content that is misleading and in violation of federal election law,” said John Zody, Chairman. “We’re asking the FEC to investigate, and for the RGA to pull down the ad. It’s clear the RGA is willing to do anything to avoid talking about Gov. Mike Pence’s failed record.”

The Indiana Democratic Party is mailing this complaint to the FEC this afternoon and will await further correspondence in the coming days.
