INDIANAPOLIS – John Zody, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party, released the following statement after the Democratic State Central Committee elected Evan Bayh to be the official Democratic nominee in the United States Senate race.
“Evan Bayh is a great example of what happens when you elect someone with Hoosier Common Sense to public office. From cutting taxes and creating the 21st Century Scholars Program as our state’s Governor to combating unfair trade practices that threatened Hoosier jobs when he was in the U.S. Senate, Evan has always put Indiana first.
“We wish we could say the same about Congressman Todd Young, who instead of crossing the aisle to figure out how Washington could work for Indiana, voted to shut down the government. He has supported deep cuts to Social Security and has voted to protect tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Hoosiers want their elected officials to have a commitment to bipartisanship and a willingness to get things done for Indiana again. That’s what Evan is all about and why we look forward to sending him to the Senate again this fall, where he and Joe Donnelly will proudly represent Hoosiers.”
