INDIANAPOLIS – Drew Anderson, communications director for the Indiana Democratic Party, released the following statement after Mike Pence weakly said that “of course” Donald Trump’s attacks on a Hoosier were “inappropriate.”
“It took late-to-the-game Mike Pence over a week to stand up for one of our own. And while Gov. Pence weakly called Trump’s attacks ‘inappropriate’ – there is a difference between disagreeing with someone and condemning a campaign that’s using racist statements to attack a Hoosier. Coming from a governor who has run to the mic on other national issues like the Syrian refugee crisis, Mike Pence should have been more than comfortable defending a Hoosier the moment these racist attacks happened. Instead, Gov. Pence played politics on the issue by putting his party ahead of one of us. That is not the kind of leadership qualities Hoosiers deserve with their governor.”
