Despite American Jobs Plan paying for itself, Braun is using partisanship to water down support for infrastructure deal
WEHT: “Senator Braun went on to say, supporting the bill does not come down to how much it costs, but rather how the country will pay for it. He says increasing taxes could be a solution.”
U.S. Senator Mike Braun on June 15: “President Biden claims he won’t tax the middle class, but he already has. Americans are paying for his big spending at the grocery store and the gas pump every day.”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Senator Mike Braun for his partisan maneuvering on taxes that amounts to scaring Hoosiers out of supporting President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan. Late last week, Braun claimed it may take raising taxes on Hoosier motorists in order to pay for the upcoming bipartisan infrastructure deal, a vote he similarly made in 2017 while in the Indiana General Assembly. The problem: Mike Braun (and the Indiana Republican Party itself) have often criticized Joe Biden and Democrats over taxes during the first six months of the President’s term.
Indiana Republicans understand the American Jobs Plan is largely popular with American voters, including more than 41-percent of their own voters. This very reason is why Republicans like Braun are now falsely claiming they will have to raise taxes on voters in order to pass the Jobs Plan. They are wrong, because under the Jobs Plan, only corporations (the same businesses Republicans provided a tax cut to) would see a tax increase — not Hoosiers. Braun’s press conference last week was a partisan attempt to winnow support from an infrastructure deal that would create good-paying jobs, repair Indiana’s roads and bridges, and expand broadband internet access across Indiana – the very issues the Senator touts back home.
Indiana Democrats are ready to deliver solutions to problems Hoosier families want solved. It’s why Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, which is helping vaccinated Hoosiers put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. It’s also why Democrats like Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan plan to support the Jobs Plan, because it’ll put an end to Indiana’s “right to work” laws and “work more for less” economy and create a better future for Hoosier families.
This is how ridiculous U.S. Senator Mike Braun’s partisanship has become:
