INDIANAPOLIS – Thanks to his hefty fundraising quarter, State Rep. Mike Braun has vaulted himself into the top tier of candidates for the GOP’s Senate nomination – and is starting to face the scrutiny that comes with that.

After contributing more than $800,000 to his own campaign, Rep. Braun hopes to tout his credentials as a conservative businessman. But it’ll be hard for him to reconcile that narrative with some of the votes he’s taken in the Statehouse, including his support for last year’s gas tax hike. Will the conservative grassroots approve of a candidate who voted for one of the largest tax hikes in the state’s history?

(INDIANAPOLIS) – With next year’s elections around the corner, some Republicans who voted for the state’s road funding plan are taking fire from both flanks.

Indiana’s Democratic Party is branding Jasper Representative and U.S. Senate candidate Mike Braun a hypocrite for supporting the plan which raised your gas taxes 10 cents a gallon in July to create a 20-year funding source for road construction and maintenance. Meanwhile, the conservative Americans for Prosperity is sending mailers blasting House Transportation Chairman Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) and Senate counterpart Mike Crider (R-Greenfield) for supporting the bill.
