INDIANAPOLIS – Rep. Braun made clear he holds an extreme position on abortion, claiming in an interview to be “100 percent pro-life” with no exceptions, a stance even more extreme than one Richard Mourdock notoriously held six years ago.
Rep. Braun’s stance on abortion was front and center in a deep dive into the issue from the Indy Star today, where he made clear that doesn’t support any exceptions for abortion, even in cases of rape, incest or the life to the mother. That position is even more extreme than what Richard Mourdock had, when his extreme beliefs on abortion alienated the majority of Hoosiers six years ago. Even Mourdock believed in an exception for the life of the mother.
From the Indy Star: What you need to know about Joe Donnelly’s and Mike Braun’s records on abortion issues
…
Donnelly opposes abortion but makes exceptions in the cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the woman. Braun does not make exceptions.
Donnelly: “One thing that’s obviously absolutely critical and at the center of everything is respecting and protecting the life of the mom. That’s why I support exceptions for rape and for incest and for the life of the mother. To me, I think that’s really critical.”
Braun: “I’m 100% pro-life. I believe that every effort should be made to honor and protect life. When you get into the particulars, I’m generally going to be on record always that the sanctity of life is important to me.”
