INDIANAPOLIS – On Friday, the Indiana Democratic Party issued guidance to Democratic county parties to halt any non-essential events for two weeks. The guidance also advised campaigns to conduct voter contact via phone or virtually. The guidance is effective Saturday, March 14. Indiana Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Ganapini believed the guidance was designed to reduce health risks and protect communities.
“We want to take common sense steps to keep communities, candidates and campaign workers safe,” said Ganapini. “We’re advising a two-week pause on non-essential events and voter contact to be conducted virtually to achieve that aim.”
The Party issued the guidance in a memo to county party executive committee members Friday afternoon. County parties were instructed to distribute the guidance to local candidates and campaigns immediately. State Party will limit non-essential travel and events effective Saturday. The Party will reevaluate and issue updated guidance in two weeks. The memo is available here.
