NBC News: Drugmaker Eli Lilly caps the cost of insulin at $35 a month, bringing relief for millions
Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks: “With the change last year in the Medicare part D benefit, the senior benefit, to $35, we think that should be the new standard in America.”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, applauds Eli Lilly, an Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company, for following suit of Democrats and capping insulin costs at $35 a month. This announcement comes after the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed by Democrats in Congress, included an insulin cap provision for seniors on Medicare. Every single Republican in Congress voted against the legislation, and some are now threatening to repeal it.
Indiana Democrats believe that access to affordable healthcare is a fundamental right for all Hoosiers, and we are pleased to see Eli Lilly taking this important step towards making insulin more affordable for the people who need it most.
Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl had this to say about the announcement:
“Eli Lilly’s decision to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month is a testament to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats in Congress like Representatives André Carson and Frank Mrvan – all of whom have been fighting for affordable healthcare and access to life-saving medications for all Americans.
We applaud Eli Lilly for following Democrats’ lead and taking this important step towards making affordable healthcare more accessible for all. We urge other pharmaceutical companies to join Democrats and prioritize the health and well-being of the American people by working towards providing affordable healthcare for all.”
This announcement is a direct result of President Biden’s leadership and the hard work of Democrats in Congress. Our party will continue to fight for affordable healthcare and access to life-saving medications for all Hoosiers.
