INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Democratic Party condemns the recent rise in antisemitic violence and attacks seen in recent weeks since the horrendous terror attacks on Israel by Hamas terrorists three weeks ago.
The Anti-Defamation League reports that antisemitic incidents have increased by nearly 400% in the United States since the massacre committed by Hamas.
“We are gravely concerned about the rise in antisemitic incidents over the past three weeks since the horrific terror attack by Hamas on Israel,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Mike Schmuhl. “Earlier this year, the ADL reported that antisemitic incidents already more than doubled in Indiana between 2021 and 2022. We must be forceful in speaking out against hateful rhetoric and antisemitism wherever it arises. These last few weeks have seen increased antisemitic incidents at American universities — including earlier this month at IU where Jewish students holding a candlelight vigil were harassed by students protesting an event to honor those who lost their lives. Congregations in the Indianapolis area have had to hire armed security — no group exercising their right to worship should have to do so under fear.
“This month marks five years since a domestic terrorist in Pittsburgh brutally murdered 11 worshippers at the Tree of Life Synagogue. We must never, ever allow what happened then to occur again. Jewish Hoosiers are an integral part of our state, and make Indiana stronger. Hoosier Democrats stand with the Jewish community in this time of crisis against all forms of antisemitism, hate, terrorism, and division.”
