White House Fact Sheet: The Biden-Harris administration’s American Jobs Plan

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated the newly announced American Jobs Plan, a transformative measure which would create millions of jobs, rebuild Indiana’s infrastructure system, and position the United States to outcompete China in the future. And unlike past investments, the American Jobs Plan will not leave behind communities that have often been overlooked — including communities of color and rural small towns.
But here’s the best part: the Biden-Harris administration will add the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to the American Jobs Plan. This is a win for Hoosier workers, because the PRO Act would weaken the so-called “right to work” laws Indiana Republicans passed back in 2012, strengthen workers’ collective bargaining rights, and penalize employers who retaliate against workers who do organize. The U.S. House already passed the PRO Act on February 6 in a party-line vote, with Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan Jr. voting for the legislation and all Indiana Republicans voting “no”.
“The Biden-Harris administration and Indiana Democrats made a promise to help Indiana and its workers build back better into a new era where infrastructure projects will create good-paying jobs, revitalize our infrastructure system, and help our families live, drive, and thrive in every Indiana community. The American Jobs Plan will do just that,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “Indiana has a strong union tradition, and it’s time the state’s elected leaders start treating its workers and unions with the respect and dignity they deserve. Through the PRO Act, the Hoosier worker will have a voice again while on the job and better opportunities will be available to families who want a pathway toward a brighter future.”

And if our country invests in the American worker, our families and communities will see better roads and bridges, better access to home infrastructure like broadband, and millions more people will have the opportunity to accomplish the American Dream in the 21st Century,” said Jon Hooker, Political Director, IBEW 481. “Union workers believe in the American Jobs Plan because it reestablishes the belief that ‘Made in America’ is more than just a slogan — it can be a real opportunity for us all.”
The American Jobs Plan will build off of the success of the Biden-Harris administration’s American Rescue Plan (ARP), which is helping get the United States — including Indiana — out of the darkness of COVID-19. Through ARP, Indiana’s vaccine system was maximized, more than 91-percent of Hoosiers received a $1,400 relief check, about $2 billion went to Indiana’s schools, more than $5.8 billion in aid reached Indiana and its cities and towns, and more than 80,000 of Indiana’s children will be lifted out of poverty. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan Jr. supported this legislation, and it further proves that when Hoosiers elect Democrats, stuff gets done.
