INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today issued the following statement by Chairman Mike Schmuhl to commemorate the Labor Day holiday:
“Indiana’s economy and middle class was built by the advocacy and hard work of union organizations that demanded some of the fundamental policies Hoosier families enjoy today – including weekends off, the end of child labor, and a mandate to provide workers a liveable wage. Hoosiers owe this reality to unions and its members, and Indiana Democrats enjoy the privilege of working in lockstep with unions to protect this common purpose and objective of creating a better future for workers and their families.
This effort carries on right now where this month, the U.S. Congress and elected leaders like U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan have the opportunity to pass President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda which consists of the American Jobs Plan and its once-in-a-generation investment in good-paying jobs and Indiana’s infrastructure system. It also includes the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would strengthen unions and dismantle the Indiana Republican Party’s “work more for less” economy that recently earned the state’s workforce an “F” grade by national watchdogs.
Indiana Democrats are ready to deliver this opportunity for unions and Hoosier families. The Jobs Plan and PRO Act will be the reason why the future will be bright for Indiana, and it’ll once again be an example of why America’s middle class is a shining example of what’s possible for our nation. Happy Labor Day from the Indiana Democratic Party.” – Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party
