INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl released the following statement after the IndyStar reported that State Rep. Julie McGuire is Mike Braun’s preferred candidate for lieutenant governor.
“Mike Braun has proven throughout this campaign that he puts MAGA ahead of all of Indiana. The selection of Julie McGuire is just the latest example. McGuire, along with Braun, supports the near-total abortion ban on women in Indiana, and voted to raise Indiana’s gas tax.
“In her only term at the Statehouse, she authored legislation which would have canceled Indianapolis’ downtown economic enhancement district before it could even begin. A Braun-McGuire administration would only continue to strip local control from the elected officials who know Hoosiers best.”
“Far-right pastor Micah Beckwith is running a delegate-centered race to be the Republican running mate, focused on criminalizing abortion, banning books, and cutting funding for public education. Braun may try to avoid having him on the ticket, but the Republican delegates will have the final say. Hoosiers can’t afford four more years of chaos and division. Only Jennifer McCormick offers a positive future for our state and will fight for local control and to restore reproductive rights as governor.
