President Biden calls out INGOP: “And to make matters worse, there are elected officials actively working to undermine the fight against COVID-19”
Friday marks 164 days since Eric Holcomb held a media briefing solely on COVID-19
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on Governor Eric Holcomb to join President Joe Biden on a form of leadership he hasn’t executed in 164 days: hold a media briefing on COVID-19. Biden provided families an updated strategy on the nation’s fight against the pandemic yesterday evening, and following the President’s new objectives which includes getting shots in arms of the 80 million unvaccinated Americans, it’s time for Indiana’s governor to let Hoosiers know if the state will listen to the science-based game plan from the White House. So far this summer, Eric Holcomb has ignored the “facts on the ground” about COVID-19 and has allowed the contagious Delta variant to get a firm grip across Indiana — forcing families to enter what health officials describe as the “darkest time” for the state’s fight against this virus.
“Hoosiers have grown tired of a partisan, vocal minority holding our families back from returning to a form of normalcy not seen in almost two years. Now is the moment to stop checking partisan boxes, and it’s up to Indiana’s CEO – Eric Holcomb – to do his job,” said Lauren Ganapini, executive director of the Indiana Democratic Party. “President Biden provided a blueprint once again to help Indiana put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. If Governor Holcomb refuses to show leadership on the pandemic, he’ll show he cares more about the Indiana Republicans’ extreme partisanship and future ambitions than saving lives.”
The Indiana Republican Party’s extreme partisanship on COVID-19 is already rebuking President Biden’s strategy to get Indiana and the United States out of the pandemic. Attorney General Todd Rokita, U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, and U.S. Congressmen Jim Banks and Larry Bucshon have all condemned the blueprint that will keep our children safe, get more shots in arms, and reinforce the economic recovery started by the American Rescue Plan. Without any leadership from Gov. Holcomb, Indiana Republicans will prove themselves once again to be a party without an identity and a movement that’s only willing to pursue a partisan agenda at the expense of Hoosiers’ livelihoods.
Governor Eric Holcomb hasn’t held a media briefing on COVID-19 for 164 days.
Indiana Democrats have done everything possible to help Hoosier families put the pandemic behind them. U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan helped pass the American Rescue Plan, which delivered vaccines in arms and relief for both families and cities and towns across Indiana. Democrats delivered for Hoosiers despite universal opposition from Indiana Republicans who all voted “NO” on the Rescue Plan.
Until Indiana Republicans get on board with a fact-based, science-proven strategy to permanently put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror, they are rooting for this kind of reality across Indiana:
