Wednesday marks 155 days since Eric Holcomb held a briefing on the state of COVID-19

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today asked concerned Hoosiers from across the state to contact Governor Eric Holcomb’s office and demand he provide a public update on how Indiana is fighting the latest COVID-19 surge. This call to action follows what’s been 155 days of silence from Governor Holcomb about the coronavirus and the Delta variant that’s gripped the state. Holcomb has refused to hold a public media briefing since the end of March, and instead, has forced the media to chase him down across the state to demand answers about a pandemic that’s taken the lives of more than 14,000 Hoosiers.
Indiana Democrats ask Hoosiers to demand a public media briefing from Governor Holcomb
“Eric Holcomb has gone from being the so-called ‘facts on the ground’ governor to failing to perform the basic duties asked of an elected official. Instead of providing Hoosiers with a plan on how Indiana will keep their children safe in the classrooms and their families protected in our communities, Holcomb participates in photo-op events and acts annoyed when he’s asked about the pandemic’s latest surge,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Democrats are asking Hoosiers to take action and demand Holcomb hold a much-needed press briefing, because it’s become very clear their governor is failing to provide the solutions needed to solve the most-pressing problem facing Indiana and its families: COVID-19.”
There’s no sugarcoating it: Indiana is once again “on fire”. COVID-19 cases are up, hospitalizations are up, and sadly, more Hoosiers are losing their lives. But unlike last winter, it’s becoming quite clear Eric Holcomb is no longer using the “facts on the ground” to help guide Indiana out of the pandemic. In fact, almost every Indiana Republican elected official – in both state and Congressional office – has failed to use the power of their office to promote vaccines and the opportunity to put the pandemic in the rearview mirror. Instead, the INGOP is missing the opportunity President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan provided Indiana by letting their extreme partisanship determine how the state responds to COVID-19 — not facts or science.
Indiana Democrats have done everything possible to help Hoosier families put the pandemic behind them. U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan helped pass the American Rescue Plan, which delivered vaccines in arms and relief for both families and cities and towns across Indiana. Democrats delivered for Hoosiers despite universal opposition from Indiana Republicans, and it looks like the INGOP’s partisan agenda will continue to create dangerous environments across the state for our families.
