Indiana Democrats to visit more than a dozen small towns across Indiana, share how Democrats are delivering on agriculture and education issues in rural communities
INDems to call out the INGOP for their upcoming crusade to make school board elections partisan races
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today announced it would launch a statewide tour ahead of the holiday season, this time focused on Indiana’s rural communities. Called the “Small Town, Indiana” tour, Hoosier Democrats will visit more than a dozen small towns to celebrate with voters and families about how Democrats – not Republicans – are delivering for them when it comes to fully-funding their public schools and the farming industry – a critical pillar to Indiana’s economic success – they are proud to be a part of. The first stop of the “Small Town” tour will be in Greendale, Indiana with Jennifer McCormick (former Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction) and Kent Yeager (Deputy Chair of the Indiana Democratic Party) serving as primary speakers for the tour’s launch.
Indiana Democrats’ “Small Town, Indiana” tour stops
The “Small Town, Indiana” tour is the fourth for the Indiana Democrats since Mike Schmuhl took over the role of Chairman for the state party. With the American Rescue Plan, American Jobs Plan, redistricting tour, and “Small Town” tours, the Indiana Democratic Party will have visited approximately 55 counties across the state — all aimed at meeting Hoosiers where they are and celebrating how Democrats are solving today’s most-pressing problems facing families.
“Public schools and farmers are the heartbeat of rural communities and the backbone of Indiana itself, and Democrats are set to hold intimate conversations about how we are delivering solutions to the most-pressing problems facing Hoosier families in Indiana’s small towns,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “Democrats have delivered since Day One of Joe Biden’s presidency, and we are ready to fan out across the state to share with families how policies like the American Rescue Plan have fully-funded Indiana’s public schools and expanded broadband internet access. Democrats are creating a better future for Hoosier families while the other side appears to prioritize only extreme partisanship and division, a contrast we’ll campaign on through the 2022 elections.”
Indiana Democrats will also call out Republicans for their upcoming partisan crusade against the state’s public school system – particularly the upcoming goal to make school board elections partisan. This crusade is hypocritical on the surface, because two years ago, Governor Eric Holcomb and the INGOP supermajority at the statehouse voted to remove the Superintendent of Public Instruction office as a partisan, elected position. In fact, Indiana Republicans like Attorney General Todd Rokita have promoted extreme partisanship and misinformation about nonpartisan school boards all year in a strategy to divide communities and families.
Details for all “Small Town, Indiana” tour stops – including the Greendale stop – are forthcoming. Media wishing to speak with INDems Chairman Mike Schmuhl, Dr. Jennifer McCormick, or other Democrats about the statewide tour and the INDems’ full-court press across the state should contact Drew Anderson at [email protected].
