ICYMI: Sen. Young claimed his opposition to raising the minimum wage by meeting with an elected INGOP’er who is also against raising the minimum wage

Just like his fictitious conversations with Democrats, Young’s political stunts expose an unwillingness to meet with real voters who are not affiliated with the INGOP

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Senator Todd Young for not just opposing an increase to the minimum wage, but for using a meeting with an elected Republican as validation for why he’s opposed to the issue. The Indiana Democratic Party recommends that Senator Young actually meet with Hoosier workers who happen to have minimum wage jobs, not INGOP elected leaders who would confirm his partisan bias.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), about 892,000 Hoosiers across Indiana earn a minimum wage — including about 554,000 women, approximately 74,000 Black Hoosiers, and close to 133,000 seniors. Hoosier Democrats call for Young to meet with these workers before choosing to reject an increase to the minimum wage.

Senator Young now joins Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party in opposition to providing some Hoosiers a fast track out of poverty. Last month, Holcomb labeled Hoosiers who worked minimum wage jobs as having a “minimum expectation” with their lives. Holcomb’s gaffe was in response to State Senator Eddie Melton’s proposal to increase the minimum wage across Indiana. 

Finally, this isn’t the first time Todd Young has made zero sense with his political stunts. Last week alone, the Senator claimed Democrats told him the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump was unnecessary – despite a large majority in favor of the process.
