Today, ahead of the three-year anniversary of Donald Trump inciting a violent insurrection on the United States Capitol, Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl released the following statement.
“Three years ago, Hoosiers watched as Donald Trump encouraged a violent mob to storm the United States Capitol and attack law enforcement in an attempt to remain in power. Trump’s continuous assaults on the foundations of our country drove our democracy to the brink of ruin on January 6, 2021, and he’s threatening to throw our nation into chaos once again. Hoosiers value our democracy and freedoms and want them strengthened — not destroyed. Voters know how high the stakes are this November and will stand with President Biden and Vice President Harris as they fight to defend freedom and democracy for all of us.”
“On the solemn third anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, Hoosiers and Americans must recommit themselves to the principles of democracy. Indiana Democrats will continue to fight for democracy at the local, state, and federal levels by supporting candidates and policies that believe in the rule of law, uphold the Constitution, and defend our democracy. We stand for the people of Indiana against gerrymandering and for ballot initiatives, so Hoosiers are able to choose their representatives in fair districts and decide directly on important issues at the ballot box like our neighbors. The protection of democracy is the challenge of our time, and Democrats are committed to preserving the democratic values and institutions that make the nation a beacon for hope around the world.”
