Washington Post/ABC News Poll: “more than 6 in 10 Americans say they approve of the job the president has done in dealing with the pandemic, almost identical to findings in April as he neared the end of his first 100 days in office.”
Column by Howey Politics Indiana: Indiana Democrats show up in rural Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today hailed the success of its statewide American Rescue Plan tour where Hoosiers from more than 40 counties held 25 events to tell the story about how the federal stimulus package was helping Indiana and its families put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. This means Hoosiers learned about how the Rescue Plan delivered $5.8 billion to Indiana and its communities, more than $2 billion to Indiana’s schools, $350 billion to law enforcement, $250 million for broadband expansion across the state, and let’s not forget about those $1,400 stimulus checks more than 91-percent of adult Hoosiers received.
According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll, about 62-percent of Americans support President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan and his job at handling the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indiana Democratic Party’s tour will help elevate this approval rating throughout the state.
“The Indiana Democratic Party had one goal: show Hoosiers that when they elect Democrats, we deliver for families, workers, communities, and the state we call home,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “The American Rescue Plan tour was a huge success, and with the dedication of many supporters in more than 40 counties, Hoosiers heard about how common sense and partnerships between the federal and state governments can create a better tomorrow. Not a single Republican voted for the Rescue Plan, but we hope they join us in passing the upcoming American Jobs Plan and the opportunity to create good-paying jobs and revitalize Indiana’s infrastructure system.”
Democratic leaders like Congressman Frank Mrvan, Joe Donnelly, John Gregg, Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Baron Hill, Jill Long Thompson, and Christina Hale joined state elected officials like Mike Andrade, Earl Harris, Jr, JD Ford, Fady Qaddoura, Robin Shackleford, Maureen Bauer, and House Minority Leader Phil GiaQuinta and city leaders like Tom McDermott, Treva Hodges, and Jocelyn Vare to demonstrate how every Democrat no matter the elected office was ready to celebrate the American Rescue Plan and how Democrats delivered for Hoosier families.
Not a single Indiana Republican in the state’s Congressional delegation supported the American Rescue Plan. Though some have now tried to take credit for some of the Rescue Plan’s policies – like Congressmen Jim Banks and Greg Pence – it’s worth remembering that the INGOP said “no” to Hoosier families, Indiana’s cities and towns, and police departments across the state. Indiana Democrats plan to remind Hoosiers about this vote from now and through the midterm elections.
Here’s what some of the Indiana Democratic Party’s American Rescue Plan tour looked across Indiana:

“In June, Schmuhl launched the American Rescue Plan tour and sent Democrats like John Gregg, Joe Donnelly, Jill Long Thompson, Christina Hale and young legislators like Eddie Melton, J.D. Ford and Mike Andrade out into the Hoosier prairies and small towns.” […]
“Gregg, the Democrat gubernatorial nominee in 2012 and 2016, joined the team of Hoosier Democrats at a half dozen stops, mostly in Trump country. ‘I was very pleased and pleasantly surprised,’ Gregg told Howey Politics Indiana on Wednesday. ‘There were good-sized crowds and new faces. People asked substantive questions about how they could defend on the bogus issues Republicans like to throw at to district voters, such as defund the police, socialism, Pelosi and Schumer, etc.
‘There seemed to be good coverage in the local press as well as social media,’ Gregg continued. ‘I just kept reminding the listeners we have to brand ourselves and not let the other party brand us.’ These Democrats reminded those inclined to believe the “defund the police notion” that ARP had $350 million for local police, but had no Republican votes.” […]
Schmuhl said that the party rebuild’s next step will begin later this month, likening the coming focus on President Biden’s American Jobs Plan to game two of a doubleheader. “We’ll shift our focus to the American Jobs Plan and what that could deliver for Americans.” […]
