CNBC: Indiana earns a F-rated quality of life, D- rated workforce in 2022 state business report
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party for delivering failing grades in quality of life (life, health, and inclusion) and workforce for the State of Indiana. This is another year where the state underperformed in the CNBC’s “Top States For Business” report, and it’s a direct result of the Indiana GOP’s extremist agenda diminishing the state’s future.
“The Indiana GOP has controlled state government for the last 18 years, and they have a F-rated quality of life and D- rated workforce to show for it. Hoosiers are looking for public servants to solve the kitchen-table issues most important to them, but unfortunately, they only see a Republican supermajority that is fixated on politicizing our schools and banning a woman’s right to choose,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “The evidence grows by the day: The state GOP’s extremist agenda is harming our state’s future and the families who call it home. Indiana is better than this and Hoosiers deserve a government that works as hard as they do. It’s time to bring balance back to state government by electing Democrats this fall.”

Failing grades and lost economic opportunity has been a consistent theme of the state GOP’s tenure. In last year’s CNBC report, Indiana earned an F-rated workforce, F-rated quality of life, and D+ rated education rankings. Indiana has also lost a $1.7 billion economic investment from Eli Lilly (losing out on 730 jobs), a $1.3 billion investment from Toyota (losing out on 1,730 jobs), and the $5 billion investment from Amazon (losing out on 50,000 jobs) in recent years.
What has been the Indiana GOP’s accomplishment during this time: an extremist agenda that’s done nothing but divide communities across Indiana. In 2022 alone, the state saw an unchecked supermajority that politicized education, handed firearms to bad actors, and bullied innocent minors. And in the coming weeks, Indiana Republicans are set to pass a total abortion ban – even in cases of rape and incest – despite just 17% of Hoosiers in favor of such policies.
Indiana is in the race to the bottom, and it’s because the Indiana Republican Party is putting its extremist agenda first, creating a better future for Hoosier families second.
