Indiana GOP: Gas prices have over doubled since Joe Biden took office, and now, thirteen states are paying over $5/gallon. This is the #BidenGasHike.

Indiana GOP scheduled to raise state’s gas tax on July 1
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out Indiana Republicans for gaslighting Hoosiers about the Indiana GOP’s role in the state’s high gas prices. Republican politicians and state party officials have claimed the high cost at the pump was solely President Joe Biden and Democrats’ fault. But contrary to their national partisan talking points, Indiana Republicans could easily take action and lower the state’s high gas prices (one of the highest on average in the nation) – but they refuse.
Indiana Republicans voted “YES” in 2017 for a hike on the gas tax, which delivers an incremental increase every year until 2024. An increase on the tax will be triggered on July 1.
So it bears repeating: the Indiana GOP is responsible for the state’s high gas prices across the state.
Indiana Democrats had the foresight to propose suspending the state’s gas tax at the end of this year’s session, but the Indiana GOP said “NO”. However, pausing the gas tax is a bipartisan effort. States like Georgia and Florida – Republican-led states have all suspended or plan to halt gas taxes for families. The Indiana Republican Party consistently shows Hoosiers they have no plans for Indiana’s future – just abiding by national partisanship.
Here’s a look at how Indiana Republicans are trying to gaslight Hoosiers on the state’s high gas prices:
SHOT: Indiana GOP Gaslight Hoosiers about Price of Gas
Mike Braun: “Thanks to President Biden we have record high inflation, gas prices and illegal border crossings. Biden is FAILING Americans.”
Jim Baird: “Gas prices have officially DOUBLED since President Biden took office, and as a result, Hoosiers are paying an average of $5 a gallon. It’s time for this administration to support American energy, not boost our dependence on foreign oil.”
NOTE: Both Braun and Baird voted for the 2017 gas tax hike.
Todd Young: “Gas prices are at over $5 dollars a gallon for the first time in American history. Until President Biden unleashes American energy, gas prices will continue to go up.”
Jackie Walorski: “Gas is clocking in above $5 per gallon across our communities. Hoosiers can’t afford Biden’s War on Energy. The clear solution – ramping up American-made energy to make our nation safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
Indiana GOP: “Gas prices have over doubled since Joe Biden took office, and now, thirteen states are paying over $5/gallon. This is the #BidenGasHike.”
Whitley Yates: “@inhsedems are blaming LOCAL Republicans for not fixing Biden’s high gas price issue. They want local government to stop funding our roads by removing a gas tax. Instead of holding the many actions of the president that led us down this dead end road”

WHAS: No gas tax relief expected in Indiana, governor says
Indiana Public Media: “Statehouse Republicans rejected calls from Democrats in March to temporarily halt gas taxes. And Gov. Eric Holcomb has repeatedly said only that he doesn’t have the authority to suspend gas taxes through his executive powers.”
