ICYMI: The entire Indiana GOP voted “NO” on $350 billion for law enforcement – including for officers in the Hoosier State
Todd Young is scheduled to use police officers as a political prop at 3:15 this afternoon in Avon to cover up his “NO” vote
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out the Indiana Republican Party for using law enforcement as campaign photo-ops while actually voting to defund the police last year. Despite the rhetoric, the Indiana GOP – led by U.S. Senator Todd Young – voted “NO” on the American Rescue Plan and the $350 billion investment for police departments across the nation, including in the Hoosier State. The following Republicans posted their photo-ops this week: Todd Young, Mike Braun, Jim Banks, Jackie Walorski, Jim Baird, Larry Bucshon, and Victoria Spartz.
Todd Young is also scheduled to use police officers as a political prop at 3:15 this afternoon in Avon to cover up his “NO” vote.
The Indiana GOP does not support law enforcement. After their “NO” vote on the Rescue Plan, state house Republicans voted to pass permitless carry – despite mounting opposition by the Indiana State Police and other law enforcement across Indiana. Mike Braun even called to defund the military during last year’s vote on the National Defense Authorization Act. No matter the issue, the Indiana Republican Party proves they have no plans for Indiana’s future – just partisanship.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats have always backed the blue through action. Democrats like André Carson and Frank Mrvan are the only ones who voted for the American Rescue Plan which included the following investments for Hoosier Police:
- Bonuses for officers in Hamilton, Lake, St. Joe County and Warrick County
- “Super funding” law enforcement in Indianapolis
- Life saving new equipment in Henry, Marion, St. Joe County and Vigo County.
Indiana Democrats will always stand with law enforcement while the Indiana GOP only cares about national partisanship.
SHOT: Indiana GOP Claims to Back to the Blue
Indiana GOP: “May God bless our Hoosier officers.”
Jim Banks: During #NationalPoliceWeek, police should know that America’s leaders have their backs, just like they have ours.
Todd Young: “I’m proud to stand with law enforcement and back the blue. #NationalPoliceWeek”
Mike Braun: “I am proud to #BackTheBlue!”
Jackie Walorski: “As we kick off #NationalPoliceWeek, I am so grateful to Mishawaka Police Chief Ken Witkowski and all of the law enforcement officers across Michiana who put their lives on the line to serve and protect our communities.”
Jim Baird: “This #NationalPoliceWeek, we honor the brave men and women who selflessly serve our communities.”
Larry Bucshon: “This #NationalPoliceWeek, I am thankful for all Hoosier police officers who put their lives on the line each day to keep our streets safe and our neighborhoods secure.”
Victoria Spartz: “Today marks the start of #NationalPoliceWeek, please join me in saying ‘Thank You’ to our heroes. #BackTheBlue”
CHASER: Indiana Republicans voted to defund the police and disrespected law enforcement
The Hill: Wallace has a contentious interview with [Jim Banks]: Aren’t you the ones defunding the police?
You see despite what they tweet, every single Republican in Indiana’s Congressional delegation voted “NO” on funding law enforcement. Even local Republicans – like the Westfield City Council – cut funding for first responders in their annual budgets. And even U.S. Senator Mike Braun called for Republicans to defund the U.S. Military ahead of last year’s vote on the National Defense Authorization Act.
