INDIANAPOLIS – George Hornedo, President of the Indiana Latino Democratic Caucus, released the below statement following the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which offers some protection to nearly 800,000 young, undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children.
“Today’s decision by the Trump Administration is cruel and indecent. Not only does it lack an economic or national security rationale, but it is morally wrong. About 800,000 Dreamers—nearly 10,000 in Indiana alone—are at risk of being taken away from their families and the communities they know. Now that President Trump has shifted responsibility to Congress, we as citizens must act with the fierce urgency of now to ensure that our elected officials do the right thing and protect Dreamers. It’s time to turn up the heat.”
