Don’t forget: the INGOP voted for a $2.3 trillion tax cut for big corporations and America’s rich, added $7.8 trillion to the national debt in just four years under President Trump
Since Todd Young’s $1 trillion infrastructure vote last week, the Indiana Republican Party, Mike Braun, Jim Baird, Jim Banks, and Jackie Walorski have all complained about “reckless spending”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on the state’s press corps to hold the Indiana Republican Party and its elected leaders accountable for their hypocritical partisanship on the issue of government spending. Despite Republicans voting for a $2.3 trillion tax cut and adding $7.8 trillion to the national debt under the Trump Administration, Republicans like Mike Braun, Jim Baird, Jim Banks, and Jackie Walorski are decrying the Democrats’ promise to deliver a once-in-a-generation investment on the nation’s infrastructure system via the American Jobs Plan. This investment includes issues Republicans claim to care about – like broadband internet, roads and bridges, and health care access for veterans.
But awkwardly, the Indiana Republican Party’s partisan crusade is also an attack on U.S. Senator Todd Young who last week voted on a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal. Republicans will try to make “spending” an issue for the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, but their attempts to have it both ways will fall short with Hoosiers who want to see solutions to the most important problems facing their families.
In contrast, Indiana Democrats have focused on delivering for Hoosier families and the problems they face every day. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan voted this spring for the American Rescue Plan, which delivered vaccines in arms, lifted 80,000 children out of poverty, and provided a $250 million investment in broadband services across Indiana. But, it’s the American Jobs Plan that will take Indiana to the #NextLevel by rebuilding the state’s roads and bridges, further expanding broadband internet, and dismantling the Republicans’ “work more for less” economy. This policy is a good investment on the Hoosier worker, and it’s why Indiana Democrats continue its American Jobs Plan tour across Indiana.
Background Information: INGOP Decry “Spending” Despite Todd Young’s Vote on Infrastructure Last Week, Supporting $2.3 Trillion Tax Cut for America’s Rich
Indiana Republican Party (August 2): “Biden’s reckless spending is causing skyrocketing inflation and creating financial hardship for American families. Hoosiers should not have to pay for the radical left’s failing policies.”
Mike Braun (August 3): “We don’t know what all will be in the Democrats’ tax-and-spending spree, but we know their intent: a several trillion-dollar injection of federal government into every aspect of our lives and our economy.”
Jim Baird (July 28): “We owe our farmers a great deal of gratitude, but soaring inflation rates due to Democrats’ unchecked spending doesn’t show much appreciation. Farmers & hardworking Americans can’t afford the impact of Democrats’ reckless spending habits, & they shouldn’t have to foot the bill”
Jim Banks (August 3): “If you think inflation is bad now, wait until these Senators and Nancy pass their massive “infrastructure” and socialist spending deals!”
Jackie Walorski (August 2): “…Now more than ever, we can’t afford more of the Democrats’ reckless spending.”
